As per Abhijeet Chaudhari of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the project will open in phases, starting with services from the Hinjewadi side. Of the 23 stations, 12 are expected to be operational in the first phase following successful trial runs.
The Pune Metro Line 3 project, widely known as the ‘Puneri Metro’, stands out as India’s first metro network to be developed under a public-private partnership model. It is being executed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a special purpose vehicle formed as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Siemens.
The 23.2 km elevated corridor is designed to connect Pune’s IT hub with Shivajinagar, reduce travel time, and ease congestion for commuters while supporting rising residential demand in the region. Full operations across the remaining stations are expected by October, after which services will run along the entire stretch. Details on train schedules and fares will be announced closer to the launch.
