Pune-Mumbai Expressway Accident Near Khopoli Claims 3 Lives, Several Injured

Multi-vehicle collision involving car, tanker and container near new tunnel triggers heavy traffic congestion on Mumbai-bound lane

Pune, 18 March 2026: A tragic accident occurred on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near the Khopoli exit close to a newly constructed tunnel on Thursday morning, leaving three people dead and four others injured. The incident took place on the Mumbai-bound lane, causing major disruption to traffic.

According to initial reports, the accident involved multiple vehicles, including a car, a container truck, and a tanker. The collision was severe, with one of the cars being completely crushed in the impact, highlighting the intensity of the crash.

Soon after the incident, long traffic jam were reported on the Mumbai-bound stretch, with vehicles stuck in queues for several kilometers. Commuters faced significant delays as authorities worked to manage the situation.

Police teams reached the spot promptly and initiated rescue operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to identify the deceased, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorities are also working to clear the damaged vehicles from the road to restore normal traffic flow. Multiple agencies, including highway patrol teams, traffic police, and emergency response units, are actively involved in the operation.
