Pune, 2nd July 2025: The long-pending recruitment process for Junior Engineer (JE) posts in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which was stalled for the past one and a half years, has finally moved forward. The Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra government recently approved 171 posts for the recruitment, up from the earlier 113.
A total of 27,879 candidates had applied for the recruitment drive when it was first announced in January 2024. Their applications will now be considered valid, as per the department’s latest directive.
Initially, PMC had announced the recruitment for 113 Junior Engineer posts in January 2024. However, the process was halted after objections were raised regarding the absence of reservation provisions for candidates from socially and educationally backward categories. The state government had then directed the civic body to update its point-based reservation policy.
Following this, PMC revised the policy and included proper reservation, but the process faced a significant delay, leaving thousands of applicants in limbo. In response, PMC sought clarification from the Urban Development Department, which has now directed the civic body to issue a fresh advertisement for 171 posts while retaining the validity of the applications received earlier.
No Disqualification Due to Age
Importantly, the department has clarified that candidates who may have crossed the age limit during the delay will still be allowed to apply under the new advertisement. Additionally, applicants will be permitted to update their caste category if needed. This means those who applied in January 2024 can still participate in the upcoming recruitment without any disadvantage.
