CCTV captures the late-night crash as a speeding 17-seater vehicle hits a motorcycle from behind; police launch investigation

Pune, 10 March 2026: A tragic road accident on the Pune–Nagar Highway claimed the life of a 44-year-old man near Shikrapur in Pune district. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh Dhondiram Bhagat.

The accident took place around 2 a.m. on March 8. According to preliminary information, Bhagat was riding his motorcycle on the Pune–Nagar Road and was attempting to turn near a road divider when a speeding 17-seater vehicle coming from behind rammed into his bike.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing the motorcycle rider to be dragged across the road for some distance.

The entire accident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the crash and shifted Bhagat to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

Police have registered the incident and launched a further investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case.

News of Bhagat’s death spread quickly in Shikrapur, drawing a large number of friends and locals to the accident site and leaving the community in mourning.
