Pune: The coronavirus peak in the country finally seems to be over as the number of new cases continues to show a sharp drop. COVID-19 is flattening its curve in Pune which was known as the epicentre of the novel coronavirus. The Pune city was one of the worst cities in the country to witness a surge in the spread of COVID-19.

But now, ahead of Diwali, Punekars may rejoice as the city is consecutively witnessing a drop in new cases. Even the number of COVID-19 containment zones are also down to as low as 13.

On Wednesday, the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) issued a revised list of containment zones in the city. To the latest list, the city now has 13 containment zones. Earlier, the city had 33 containment zones (declared on October 17), which means 20 areas have been removed from the list.

As per the list issued on Wednesday, there is one containment zone each in areas under ward offices of, Bhavani Peth, Wanowrie-Ramtekdi and Kasba-Vishrambaugwada. All these three areas in the city were once known as a hotspot of COVID-19.

There two containment zones each in Kothrud-Bavdhan and Nagar Road-Vadgaonsheri while and three each in Hadapsar-Mundhwa and Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar area. According to the guidelines, these new containment zones will be barricaded and the roads will be blocked for no vehicular movement inside the zone.

As far as the tally goes, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the city (PMC) is 1,62,419 while the number of recovered patients stands at 1,52,485. Of the 5,641 active cases, 494 are serious while 1,420 are on oxygen support.
