Pune, 26th May 2026: To curb the rising crime in the city, Pune Police have decided to shut roadside food stalls, hawkers, carts and paan shops after 10 PM. The restriction will also apply to food vendors operating at popular public spots including Sarasbaug, riverfront areas and other chowpattys.

The decision comes amid an increase in criminal incidents reported across the city over the past few weeks. According to police officials, large late-night gatherings at roadside stalls often lead to disputes, nuisance and criminal activities. To strengthen law and order, police have intensified night patrolling and naka bandi operations across Pune.

Police teams are also carrying out strict checks on suspicious vehicles during late-night hours. Security and patrolling have been increased at major junctions and in sensitive areas known for criminal activity.

The move has created concern among small vendors and hawkers who depend on late-night business for their livelihood. However, police officials said the restrictions are necessary to prevent overcrowding and maintain public safety in the city

“Roadside food vendors, hawkers and paan shops across the city will have to shut after 10 PM. Hotels and bars can continue operating till 1:30 AM as per existing rules. Strict action will be taken against establishments violating the regulations,” said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
