Pune, 2nd July 2026: A police constable attached to Chatushrungi Police Station has been suspended after he allegedly assaulted an Assistant Police Inspector (API) within the police station premises. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Chilumula Rajanikant ordered the suspension following an inquiry into the incident.
According to police officials, constable Vivek Ramesh Basangar had previously come under disciplinary action for allegedly using abusive, caste-based and offensive language while interacting with senior officers and a woman police employee during duty. A departmental inquiry had resulted in a fine of ₹5,000.
Police said the constable allegedly continued his misconduct despite the earlier action. On June 26, he reportedly abused the Crime Inspector at Khadki Police Station and recorded the interaction on his mobile phone.
The following day, he allegedly entered the cabin of an Assistant Police Inspector from the investigation team without permission, questioned him over a station diary entry, recorded a video, used abusive language, and disrupted official work.
The situation escalated on June 29 when Basangar allegedly confronted the Assistant Police Inspector again, verbally abused him and assaulted him. He is also accused of forcibly entering the office of senior officers, shouting inside the police station and creating a disturbance on the premises.
After receiving information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Chilumula Rajanikant visited Chatushrungi Police Station, conducted an inquiry, and ordered Basangar's suspension from government service pending further departmental action. The police department is continuing its internal investigation into the matter.
