Pune, 7th February 2026: A police constable posted at Faraskhana police station in Pune has been suspended for allegedly suppressing information related to a Bangladeshi woman illegally staying in the Budhwar Peth red-light area. The suspension was ordered by Zone One Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushikesh Rawale.
The constable, Manisha Pukale, is accused of failing to inform senior police officers despite receiving information about the Bangladeshi national and allegedly accepting money from her. Police officials said this amounted to serious misconduct and dereliction of duty.
According to the police, the Bangladeshi woman had arrived in Budhwar Peth in 2023 through an agent. At the time, she was a minor. Recently, she filed a complaint at Faraskhana police station stating that she was trafficked and forced into prostitution. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against eight persons, including middlemen and the brothel operator.
Police sources said that before the FIR was registered, the woman had come in contact with Constable Pukale. However, the constable did not pass on any information about the woman’s nationality or illegal stay to her senior officers.
The matter came to light after social activists working in Budhwar Peth brought the issue to the notice of senior police officials. Following a preliminary inquiry, the Deputy Commissioner ordered Pukale’s suspension.
Police officials stated that action against illegally staying Bangladeshi nationals has been intensified across the city. The drive follows directions issued at the national level by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and subsequent instructions by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to all police station heads.
Senior officers said the case highlights the need for strict internal accountability while dealing with sensitive cases involving human trafficking and illegal immigration.
