Pune, 28th August 2026: Pune Police have intensified action against the use of high-volume pressure mids and plasma sound systems during processions after violations of prescribed noise limits were detected at several locations across the city on Wednesday.
Police teams monitoring the processions found pressure mids and plasma systems being used by DJ operators at six locations. Action was taken against those responsible, and the sound equipment was seized.
Police had deployed teams to monitor sound levels along procession routes as part of efforts to control noise pollution. Measurements were recorded at more than 1,000 locations across the city. Of these, 148 locations recorded noise levels above the prescribed limit.
Police have started action against the concerned DJ operators and sound system providers and said similar enforcement will continue during upcoming processions.
Authorities have appealed to procession organisers and DJ operators to strictly follow the permitted noise limits.
Meanwhile, the police administration is considering allowing Ganesh mandals and organisers of Dahi Handi celebrations to use four bass speakers and four top speakers instead of the existing arrangement of two bass and two top speakers.
Around 80 per cent of Ganesh mandals have reportedly responded positively to the proposed arrangement. However, operators will still be required to comply with prescribed noise limits.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “During Wednesday’s processions, noise levels were recorded at various locations across the city. At 148 locations, the prescribed decibel limit was exceeded, and action has been initiated against those violating the rules. Action is also being taken against those using pressure mids and plasma systems.”
Police said noise monitoring will continue during major public events, and DJ and sound system operators found violating noise pollution regulations will face action.
