The special operation was conducted across various parts of the city after complaints about loud exhaust sounds disturbing residents, particularly near hospitals, schools, colleges and residential areas. The problem has been especially troubling during night hours when the sharp noise from modified silencers disrupts public peace.

The crackdown was carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav. Traffic police teams inspected vehicles and penalised riders who had installed modified silencers that violate traffic and pollution norms.

During the drive, police took action against 2,822 Bullet motorcycles and seized 870 illegal silencers fitted on these vehicles. Authorities collected ₹23.15 lakh from the total penalties imposed on offenders.

To ensure that the seized silencers are not reused, police destroyed all 870 illegal silencers using a bulldozer at the Traffic Branch office in Yerwada on Wednesday.

Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil said police will continue strict enforcement against those violating traffic rules and contributing to noise pollution. He also appealed to citizens to avoid using modified silencers and cooperate with authorities in maintaining public peace.
