The Pune City Police conducted an intensive two-day operation from February 12 to 13, 2026, targeting triple-seat violators across the city’s busiest intersections and high-traffic zones. The campaign involved a coordinated effort by officers from 30 traffic divisions and 44 police stations. Here are the key findings:

  • Participating Units: 30 traffic divisions and 44 police stations

  • Vehicles Seized: 988

  • On-the-Spot Fines Collected: 2,137

  • Revenue Generated: ₹21,37,000

Considering the wider range of traffic offenses in this timeframe, the police issued a total of 13,308 challans. This recent enforcement effort is a segment of a continuous safety campaign that started on February 10th. Since that date, the Pune City Traffic Branch has fined 5,380 individuals for riding with three people on a vehicle. Along with other traffic violations, the department has collected a total of Rs 1,03,25,150 for the government treasury in just a few days of strict enforcement.

Himmat Jadhav, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Traffic Branch, highlighted that riding with three people on a motorcycle is a grave, punishable violation that endangers both riders and pedestrians. Authorities mentioned that these initiatives are crucial for upholding road discipline and decreasing the city's accident rate. The department has assured that these unannounced inspections will persist indefinitely to guarantee ongoing adherence to safety regulations.

Authorities concluded the operation with an appeal to the residents of Pune to prioritise safe and disciplined driving. They reiterated that the primary goal of the hefty fines and vehicle seizures is to deter dangerous behaviour rather than just collect revenue. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with traffic personnel to help streamline the city’s increasingly congested roadways.
