PUNE: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken action against 4,500 vehicles plying without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate on the road. The action was taken between March 2019 to January 2020. RTO officials have imposed Rs 34.11 lakh as fine.

There are 411 PUC centres in the city. Out of this, 262 centres provide online certificates and 149 centres are yet to go online. Online service had been made mandatory from October 2019.

The vehicles fined include two-wheelers, four-wheelers, goods tempo and heavy vehicles. Pune RTO covers Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Baramati, Solapur and Akluj areas. The highest number of violators were found in Pimpri-Chinchwad where officials took action against 2,778 vehicles and imposed a fine of Rs 13.10 lakh. This was followed by Baramati (1,110), Solapur (290), Akluj (250) and Pune (120).

“The vehicles were found during a regular check by the special squad. The squad asked them for all valid documents. Most of the vehicles were either plying with an expired PUC certificate or without a certificate,” said Deputy RTO Sanjeev Bhor.
