Pune, 8 July 2025: In a significant development, Pune Police have concluded that the rape allegations made by a 25-year-old IT professional against a man were unfounded. Three days after the woman accused a man of sexually assaulting her at her residence, the investigation revealed several contradictions in her statement. The accused, a 25-year-old professional working with a multinational accounting firm in Pune, has been released under certain conditions after the police found no evidence to support the rape charge.
Initially, the woman claimed that the accused posed as a delivery executive and came to her home under the pretext of delivering bank-related documents. However, police investigations confirmed that the man was not a delivery agent but someone the complainant had known for over a year through social connections. He had previously visited her residence, and the two had communicated shortly before the alleged incident, suggesting mutual consent.
The complainant had further alleged that the man locked the door after asking her to fetch a pen, sprayed an unknown substance on her face that rendered her unconscious, and then raped her. Upon regaining consciousness an hour later, she claimed the accused had fled the scene. The investigation, however, found no evidence of forced entry, no trace of any sprayed substance, and no signs of physical assault.
Adding to the contradictions, the woman had said the accused took a selfie with her while she was unconscious and left a threatening message on her phone. The police probe found that the selfie was taken with consent and that the threatening message was later edited by the woman herself. According to the investigators, she had also deleted specific content from her phone before handing it over to the authorities.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “Based on the various evidence that we have gathered including the mobile communications and also based on the sequence of events that has been ascertained, we have reached a conclusion that it is not a case of rape.” He further added, “Now, what action we will take against her, is something we are yet to reach a conclusion on.”
