Traffic indiscipline has posed a high risk to commuters in Pune, with violations such as wrong-side driving, triple riding and signal jumping endangering lives daily. To address this, police stepped up enforcement through special drives, surprise checks and zero-tolerance action against serious offences.

2023 Traffic Violations in Pune

Official data shows a steady increase in no-entry violations over the last three years, from just over 21,000 cases in 2023 to 1.78 lakh in 2024, and a steep jump to 5,01,667 cases in 2025. Police said the surge reflects stricter monitoring rather than a sudden rise in violations.

Other major offences also saw a rise in enforcement. Signal jumping cases crossed 1.71 lakh in 2025, while action against triple riding reached nearly 69,000 cases. Wrong-side driving and mobile phone use while driving also recorded significant increases compared to previous years.

Traffic police conducted focused operations at major junctions, busy roads, school and college areas, markets and residential zones. Violators were fined, vehicles were seized in serious cases, and driving licences were suspended where required. Special attention was given to offences linked to accidents, such as wrong-side driving and triple riding.

Senior officials said sustained enforcement has begun showing results. Traffic flow in several parts of the city has improved, congestion has reduced, and commuters are spending less time stuck at intersections. Recent traffic assessments also indicate better movement across key corridors.
