Pune, 11 April 2026: The iconic Z Bridge, officially known as Kakasaheb Gadgil Bridge, which connects the Deccan area to Pune’s Peth localities, will remain closed for night traffic for a month due to repair work.

The decision was announced by Pune district authorities, who have urged residents to cooperate and use alternate routes during this period.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will begin repair work on April 10, with completion scheduled by May 9. During this time, vehicular movement on the bridge will be completely restricted every night from 11 PM to 7 AM. The bridge plays a crucial role in the city’s daily traffic flow, making the temporary closure significant for commuters.

The repair work follows a structural audit conducted after last year’s monsoon, as directed by District Collector Jitendra Dudi. The audit revealed that 17 bridges across Pune require urgent repairs. In the first phase, work on Khadakwasla, Sambhaji, and Dandekar bridges has already been completed successfully.

Officials said that critical components such as expansion joints and bearings on the Z Bridge need replacement to ensure long-term safety and durability. The night-time schedule has been chosen to minimize disruption, although some impact on traffic is expected.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to plan their travel accordingly and use alternate routes. They emphasized that the repair work is necessary to improve the bridge’s safety and extend its lifespan, after which normal traffic operations will resume.
