Pune, 11 April 2026: With a multi-modal transit hub planned at Shivajinagar under a public-private-partnership (PPP) model, the city is set to witness major transformation in its public transport infrastructure.
The project will bring together metro services, MSRTC bus operations, and PMPML connectivity at a single location, improving seamless travel for commuters.
Maha-Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar stated that discussions with MSRTC have been completed and a formal agreement will be signed soon.
Once finalized, the project plan will be approved and construction will begin. The hub aims to create a unified transport system, reducing travel time and congestion in one of Pune’s busiest areas.
Alongside this project, metro expansion across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding regions is moving forward rapidly. Work has already begun on key routes such as Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi.
Portions of the Ramwadi–Wagholi corridor will be jointly developed by Maha-Metro and the Maharashtra Infrastructure Development Corporation, with technical processes currently underway.
Further metro corridors, including Kharadi to Khadakwasla and routes covering Nal Stop, Warje, and Manik Baug, are in the land acquisition stage involving both government and private land.
Other proposed routes, such as Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad, have had their project reports submitted to the central and state governments. Meanwhile, planning work continues for corridors like Viman Nagar to the airport and District Court to Kondhwa via Poolgate.
To improve commuter convenience, Maha-Metro is also working on enhancing last-mile connectivity. Plans are underway to ensure feeder services within a 25-meter radius of metro stations. These services are being designed in coordination with PMPML, with additional participation from auto-rickshaw unions.
"After signing the agreement with MSRTC, we will finalize the project plan and move ahead with execution. Metro expansion across the city and district is progressing quickly, with continuous coordination between central and state authorities and local agencies. Our focus remains on passenger-centric planning and better connectivity," said Hardikar.
