Pune, 13 January 2026: City is witnessing a sharp differences in temperatures from one locality to another. Over the past few days, the city has shown a striking contrast in night temperatures. While some areas recorded lows between 9°C and 10°C, others remained much warmer, crossing 15°C.
In fact, within just a 10-kilometre radius, Pune has seen temperature differences of up to six degrees, highlighting how uneven the city’s winter has become.
On Monday, the IMD recorded minimum temperatures of 10.9°C in Shivajinagar and 10.1°C in Haveli. In contrast, nearby areas such as Magarpatta, Lohegaon and Koregaon Park recorded much higher night temperatures, ranging from 14.9°C to 16.9°C. This has resulted in some parts of Pune experiencing biting cold, while others feel noticeably warmer.
The weather department explains that this is mainly due to urbanisation and local geography. Shivajinagar’s observatory is located in a relatively open and green area with limited construction. Such open land releases heat quickly at night, making the early mornings much colder.
On the other hand, areas like Magarpatta, Lohegaon and Koregaon Park are dense with buildings, roads and glass structures. These surfaces absorb heat during the day and slowly release it at night, keeping temperatures higher. Tall buildings also block wind flow, trapping warm air in these localities.
For Tuesday, Pune is expected to see a drop of around three degrees in the maximum temperature, which may settle near 29°C, while the minimum is likely to stay around 11°C. Skies will remain mostly clear with a chance of light morning fog. From Thursday onward, minimum temperatures are expected to rise slightly to around 13°C, with daytime temperatures reaching close to 30°C.
In recent days, Pune has experienced a mix of cold mornings, hot afternoons and slightly humid evenings, a clear sign of how changing urban landscapes are reshaping the city’s climate.
According to IMD-GFS forecasts, minimum temperatures are expected to remain in double digit till 19 January. No extremely low temperatures are expected. On January 13, Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 14.8°C.
