Pune witnessed a shift in weather on April 1, as intense heat during the day gave way to heavy rain and hailstorms in the evening. The sudden change caught many residents off guard, especially office-goers returning home and citizens out for errands.
Areas such as Kharadi and Katraj experienced hailstorms, while central parts of the city and localities like Bibwewadi, Sahakarnagar, Dhankawadi saw heavy rainfall. The showers, though brief, were intense enough to disrupt daily life across multiple neighborhoods.
The rainfall led to waterlogging on key roads and internal streets, slowing down traffic and causing congestion during peak evening hours. Commuters struggled to navigate flooded stretches, resulting in delays across the city.
Strong winds accompanied the rain, leading to several tree fall incidents. The fire department reported around seven to eight such cases in areas including Viman Nagar, Wagholi, Yerwada, and Nagar Road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these incidents.
According to the weather forecast, Pune is likely to see similar conditions on Thursday, with clear skies in the morning turning cloudy later in the day. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected, and an ‘orange alert’ has been issued for the possibility of hail and intense weather activity.
