Pune, 20 December 2025: City and several parts of interior Maharashtra experienced a drop in minimum temperatures from Friday, with the chill expected to continue over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Saturday morning, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1°C, slightly lower than Friday’s 8.3°C. IMD scientists said the fall in temperature is mainly due to cold and dry winds blowing in from northern regions.
The situation is likely to remain similar for the next 48 hours, with minimum temperatures hovering around 10°C before rising by one or two degrees Celsius thereafter.
Despite the cold mornings, daytime temperatures in Pune have remained relatively warm, touching around 30°C. Meteorological officials explained that clear skies are allowing more sunlight during the day, leading to unseasonably warm afternoons even as nights and mornings stay cold.
Importantly, these temperature patterns are still within the normal range when compared to Pune’s average winter data over the past 30 years.
Many residents have also noticed a light haze during early morning hours. The IMD clarified that this is a typical winter occurrence. When temperatures drop and the atmosphere becomes stable, suspended particles such as dust and pollutants remain trapped near the surface, creating temporary haze. Officials added that this condition usually clears as the day progresses and is not seen throughout the day.
