Pune, 16 March 2026: A shocking incident has emerged from Chakan in Pune district where a woman was killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs.
The deceased has been identified as Shobha Vijay Waghmare, originally a resident of Deglur in Nanded district, who was currently living in the Chakan area.
According to reports, the incident took place around 2 am on March 16 near Ambethan Chowk. Waghmare was walking along the service road under a flyover when a group of around six stray dogs suddenly attacked her. CCTV footage of the area captured the horrifying incident.
The woman reportedly tried to defend herself by picking up stones and attempting to scare the dogs away. However, she could not withstand the attack by the pack. The dogs inflicted severe injuries on her hands, legs, face and neck, leading to heavy bleeding. She reportedly died at the spot within about fifteen minutes due to excessive blood loss.
The incident created panic in the area after locals discovered her body in a severely injured state in the morning. Initially, there were suspicions of murder or assault. However, after examining CCTV footage, police confirmed that the death was caused by a stray dog attack.
Following the incident, fear has spread among residents in the Chakan area. Locals have raised concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs and have demanded immediate action from the authorities to control the situation.
Stray dog attacks have become a growing concern across Maharashtra. Earlier, such incidents were mostly reported late at night or early morning when people stepped out for walks or exercise.
However, attacks are now increasingly being reported during the day as well, particularly targeting children and elderly citizens, raising serious safety concerns among residents.
