Pune: Tulshibaug, one of Pune’s oldest and renowned markets where you can get everything from women and kidswear, household items, jewellery and much more soon to get a new look.

The administration of the city has decided to create Tulshibaug, as a city’s mega shopping centre. In the revamped look, customers, as well as the traders here, can avail the benefits. The PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) in a recently proposed budget has allocated funds worth Rs one crore for the redevelopment of the shopping site.

Over 1-2 lakh people visit the shopping hub of Pune on daily basis however, it has come to notice that customers here aren’t happy with the facilities here. Even at multiple times, overcrowding is witnessed especially during festivities. To overcome these problems and smoothen the work, the PMC has decided to revamp Tulshibaug. The proposed project will be on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The infrastructure model will develop soon, according to the officials of the PMC.

Pune’s oldest and most popular small retail market survived during COVID-19 peak time. However, the market was allowed to reopen in June last year in a phased manner. As the first phase of unlocking in June was declared, shops here were permitted to operate on a P1 and P2 basis which had its pros and cons. Now, fast forward to March 2021, the shops are running in a full-fledge manner with COVID restrictions in place.

One of the shopkeepers here said, “We welcome this move as it will be a great benefit for shopkeepers like us. It will also increase the footfall and ultimately will result to generate good revenue.”
