Pune, 23 June 2025: The opening of the second stretch of the much-anticipated Sinhagad Road flyover, connecting Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, has been delayed due to continuous rainfall, affecting the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) planned timeline.

The first part of the flyover was inaugurated on May 1 by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, with hopes to open the remaining section within two months. However, persistent showers have slowed the pace of work, forcing officials to push back the completion date.

This 2.5-km-long flyover is one of Pune’s major infrastructure projects, designed to ease the heavy traffic on this busy corridor. Though the partial opening has provided some relief to commuters, daily traffic jams and long queues remain a major challenge, especially during peak hours. Residents have repeatedly demanded faster work to reduce the inconvenience.

Construction of the flyover began on September 21, 2021, under the PMC’s Building Permission Department. The stretch from Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Cinema was completed ahead of schedule and opened in May. However, the remaining portion connecting Manik Bagh to Vitthalwadi still awaits final touches and does not yet have a confirmed opening date.

PMC had planned to make the entire flyover operational by July and preparations were underway accordingly. While the asphalt work is done in some sections, roadbed work continues in others. Recent heavy rainfall has turned the murum laid for the road into slush, stalling further construction activities.

“Work on the remaining stretch is progressing steadily,” said Yuvraj Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of the PMC’s Building Permission Department. “Once the rain eases, construction will resume at full speed. We request commuters to bear with us for a little longer, as the complete flyover will bring significant relief from traffic congestion.”
