BJP’s Ravi Landge Set to Become Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor; Deputy Mayor Race Turns Dramatic

Unopposed mayoral nomination clears Ravi Landge’s path, while last-minute withdrawals and a contest mark the deputy mayor’s election in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune, 3rd February 2026: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is set to get a new mayor, with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ravi Landge poised to take charge. Landge filed his nomination for the mayor’s post on Monday, and with no other candidate entering the race, his election has effectively been sealed.

Since only one nomination was submitted, Landge’s victory will be unopposed. The formal declaration of his election will be made on Friday, February 6, during the official mayoral election process, completing what has been a smooth and uncontested transition for the top civic post.

In contrast, the deputy mayor’s election witnessed unexpected political developments. Three-time corporator Sheetal alias Vijay Shinde declined to contest the deputy mayor’s post at the last moment and chose to step away from municipal politics, creating sudden uncertainty within the BJP camp.

Following Shinde’s withdrawal, senior BJP corporator Sharmila Babar was nominated for the deputy mayor’s post. She submitted her nomination with the municipal secretary just before the deadline, bringing clarity to the party’s choice.

Unlike the mayoral post, the deputy mayor’s election will not be uncontested. The Nationalist Congress Party has fielded Vaishali Kalbhor, ensuring a direct contest for the position.

The BJP’s dominance in the civic body, having secured 84 of the 128 seats, had already made it clear that the mayor would be from the party. However, there was keen interest over whether the post would go to a corporator from Pimpri, Chinchwad, or Bhosari.

That speculation ended on Monday with Landge’s nomination for mayor and Babar’s entry into the deputy mayor race, in the presence of senior BJP leaders and elected representatives.
