Realignment of metro project helped save crores of rupees, says Limaye

Pune: Realignment of the metro project on the Vannaz-Ramwadi and Swargate-Pimpri corridors of the project has helped Mahametro save crores of rupees, said Technical Adviser of Mahametro Shashikant Limaye. He was speaking at Metro Samvaad event at Siddharth Hall, Karve Road, on Friday.

Limaye said, “As per the earlier plan of the two corridors by Mahametro, it was supposed to acquire 44 hectares of land. After realignment, we had to acquire only 39 hectares of land thereby saving the acquisition cost. As land acquisition is a major concern for citizens because no one wants to part with his land, we started making small changes in our original plan so that we have to acquire less land.”

The metro will acquire land for building parking stations near metro stations. The project will also have to acquire land to build escalators, elevators and skywalks at different sites. Speaking about the ongoing work on Karve Road of the metro project, Limaye said that they are in the process of planning different ways to reduce the traffic chaos while the work of the Mahametro is in progress.

Chief Project Manager of Mahametro Gautam Birhade said that Mahametro has planned to complete the work on Karve Road in small phases so that the traffic chaos is less. Currently, the metro rail work on Karve Road has been postponed to April.

Metro Samvaad is an initiative of Mahametro, which helps citizens solve their doubts and raise concerns related to the metro project.
