Pune, 21 March 2026: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Pune district, the Shikrapur Police Station has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) into its daily operations, aiming to significantly reduce workload and improve efficiency.
A total of 35 officers and staff members recently underwent a dedicated training session to understand how AI applications can be effectively used in routine policing.
The initiative was led by Police Inspector Dipratan Gaikwad, making Shikrapur the first police station in the district to adopt structured AI training for its personnel.
According to Gaikwad, the use of AI tools has already begun saving nearly 50% of the time spent on administrative tasks, with expectations of reaching up to 90% efficiency in the coming weeks.
The training was conducted free of cost by Prof. Sudhir Mule and Sanika Karale from ASN Computer Education. It focused on practical applications of AI in police work, including drafting reports, analysing complex data, translating documents, and creating digital content.
Officers were introduced to 17 advanced AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Google Lens, and Canva.
Special demonstrations highlighted how tools like DeepSeek and QuillBot can assist in simplifying technical aspects of investigations. Participants were also trained in handling photo and video editing tasks, making documentation more accurate and presentable.
From registering FIRs and maintaining station diaries to preparing charge sheets and managing records of deployments and VIP security, AI is now helping streamline multiple processes within the police station.
Officials noted that even technical analysis during investigations has become faster and more manageable with the help of these tools.
With crime patterns evolving rapidly, Pune Police are exploring innovative solutions like AI to enhance efficiency and responsiveness. The Shikrapur initiative could serve as a model for other police stations across the district looking to modernise their operations.
