Pune 3rd July 2025: Passengers on board SpiceJet flight SG-1080 from Goa to Pune faced a tense moment mid-flight when the interior panel of a window came loose, leading to alarm among those seated nearby. The incident occurred shortly after take-off on Tuesday, prompting concerns about safety and aircraft maintenance standards.
According to passengers, the plastic interior frame and window shutter suddenly detached, revealing insulation material beneath. Although the airline clarified that the outer windowpane remained intact, preventing any loss of cabin pressure, the sudden malfunction left many on board feeling uneasy.
Visuals shared on social media showed the dislodged panel hanging loose, while cabin crew attempted to fix it temporarily during the flight.
In a statement issued after the flight, SpiceJet assured that passenger safety was never at risk. The airline said the panel that came loose was a non-structural trim used only for shading purposes and described the incident as purely cosmetic. They further added that the aircraft maintained normal pressurisation throughout the journey.
One of the passengers, Aatish Mishra, shared his experience online, expressing concern about the condition of the aircraft and questioning its readiness for onward travel to Jaipur. “The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid-flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s airworthy,” he posted.
To add to the inconvenience, the flight was delayed by over 90 minutes, departing at 6.55 pm instead of its scheduled time of 5.20 pm. Passengers complained that they were not informed in advance about the delay and received no clarification from the airline staff.
SpiceJet later confirmed that the panel was repaired upon landing, following standard maintenance procedures. While the airline downplayed the seriousness of the issue, many passengers called the experience alarming and urged stricter checks to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
