Pune, 21 February 2026: The much-awaited bridge connecting Suncity and Karvenagar in Pune is now in its final stage of construction and is likely to be opened for traffic by the end of April. The new bridge is expected to ease the growing traffic pressure on Sinhagad Road and nearby areas.

The project, undertaken by the Pune Municipal Corporation, aims to reduce congestion on the busy Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhagad Road) and the Pune–Bengaluru highway stretch near Warje.

Thousands of commuters travelling daily between Sinhagad Road, Karvenagar, Kothrud, Satara Road, and Katraj currently face heavy traffic jams, especially during peak hours.

Work on the bridge began after the work order was issued in May 2023, with on-ground construction starting in September 2023. Over the past two-and-a-half years, major structural work has been completed on the Karvenagar side, including pillars, girders, and approach roads.

On the Suncity side, four out of six pillars have been completed, while work on the remaining structure and bridge span is ongoing.

Officials estimate that the remaining structural work may take around two more months. After that, finishing tasks such as approach roads, asphalting, street lighting, stormwater drainage systems, and footpaths will be completed before the bridge is opened to the public.

The 279-metre-long and 30-metre-wide bridge has nine spans and approach roads measuring 34 metres on the Karvenagar side and 20 metres on the Suncity side. The total cost of the project stands at ₹44.86 crore.

Once operational, the bridge is expected to reduce traffic load on Sinhagad Road, Rajaram Bridge, and Karvenagar, while also easing congestion on the Pune–Bengaluru highway.

It will cut travel time between Sinhagad Road and Kothrud and help lower the risk of accidents caused by traffic bottlenecks. Students, office-goers, business professionals, and residents are likely to benefit from smoother and faster connectivity.

Dinkar Gojare, Head of the Special Projects Department at the Pune Municipal Corporation, said, “The Suncity to Karvenagar bridge work is in its final stage. Construction on the Karvenagar side has been completed, and work on the Suncity side is progressing. We have set a target to complete the entire project by the end of April and open it for traffic.”
