Pune, 20 June 2025: In view of the annual Palkhi ceremony of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, the Pune Traffic Police have announced special traffic arrangements from June 20 to June 23. The decision aims to prevent traffic jams and ensure the safety of devotees and citizens during the processions. Entry of heavy vehicles has also been banned in the city during this period.
The main roads along the Palkhi routes will be closed completely or partially as the palkhi pass through different parts of Pune. Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi will enter Pune from Akurdi, while Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi will arrive from Alandi. Areas such as Bopodi, Khadki, Wakdewadi, Engineering College Chowk, Sancheti Chowk, Tilak Chowk, Laxmi Road, Budhwar Peth, and Nanapeth will be affected.
Today, traffic on the Bopodi to Khadki Bazar road and parts of the old Mumbai-Pune highway will be closed from 5 am to midnight. To avoid inconvenience, commuters can use Bhau Patil Road, RTO Chowk, and Parnakuti Chowk as alternative routes. Adequate security arrangements have been made by the city police on these routes.
Similarly, for the arrival of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi, roads from Alandi through Wadmukhwadi, Vishrantwadi, and Patil Estate will be closed from 3 pm to 8 pm. Vehicles can instead use routes passing through Dhanori, Yerawada Jail Road, and Parnakuti Chowk. Traffic movement in central Pune will also be restricted during the ceremony.
The traffic department has requested citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during these days and strictly follow police instructions. Alternative routes such as Senapati Bapat Road, Nal Stop, Shastri Road, Ranka Chowk, Rameshwar Chowk, and Phadke Haud Chowk should be used to bypass closed areas. Vehicles accompanying the Palkhi must stick to designated routes for smooth movement.
