Pune, 3rd February 2026: The Police have registered a case against an Uber cab driver for allegedly molesting a 42-year-old woman after a dispute over fare in the Baner area on Sunday morning.
According to police, the woman, who works as a makeup artist with a beauty parlour, had booked an Uber cab from Narhe to Baner. The incident occurred around 10.42 am after she reached her destination.
Police said the driver demanded more money than the fare shown on the Uber application. When the woman refused to pay the additional amount, an argument broke out between the two.
A senior officer from the Baner Police Station said the situation escalated rapidly. “The driver abused the woman during the argument and allegedly touched her inappropriately before fleeing from the spot,” the officer said.
Based on the complaint, police have registered an offence under Sections 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators have traced the cab’s registration number and identified the driver. “We have the driver’s details and he will be taken into custody shortly for questioning,” the officer added.
Following the incident, the woman also reported the matter through the Uber app. Responding to the complaint, an Uber spokesperson said, “We have zero tolerance for any form of inappropriate behaviour. As soon as the rider reported the incident, the driver’s access to the platform was suspended. We are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation.”
