Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas was elected as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India at its Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday. Manhas, 45, becomes the 37th president of the Board, succeeding Roger Binny, who resigned last month after reaching the age of 70. The former all-rounder, who boasts an impressive domestic career with 9,714 First-Class runs and 27 centuries, emerged as the consensus choice following informal discussions among the Board's power brokers earlier this month in New Delhi.
The AGM also saw several crucial appointments made to the national selection committees. Former Indian bowler Amita Sharma was appointed as the new chairperson of the women’s national selection committee, succeeding Neetu David. Amita Sharma is a veteran of the Indian team, having represented the country in 116 ODIs, 41 T20Is, and five Tests, taking 108 wickets across formats. She will lead a new selection panel that also includes former players Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanthi Naidu, with their tenure beginning after the Women’s World Cup concludes in early November.
In the men's senior selection committee, former India internationals Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh were appointed as new members, replacing S. Sharath and Subroto Banerjee. Ojha, a left-arm spinner, played 24 Tests and took 144 wickets across all formats for India. RP Singh, a fast bowler who was a member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad, picked up 124 wickets in his international career. Both players met the BCCI's eligibility criteria for the post, which requires a minimum playing experience and a retirement gap of at least five years.
It also welcomed Raghuram Bhat and Jaydev Shah into its ranks as office bearers, while S. Sharath, who was part of the senior selection panel since 2023, has been appointed chairman of the junior selection committee, where he will oversee the grooming of young talent.
