England thrashed South Africa by 146 runs in the second T20 International at Old Trafford, setting a new record for the highest T20I total by a full member nation with a mammoth 304 for two. The victory levels the three-match series at 1-1, with the decisive match scheduled for Sunday in Nottingham. The match was a night of record-breaking performances, headlined by opener Phil Salt's blistering century.

Opener Phil Salt, smashed an unbeaten 141 from just 60 balls. His innings was the highest individual score ever by an English batsman and included the fastest century for England in the format, which he reached in just 39 balls. Salt, who broke his own previous record of 119 for the team, was supported by Jos Buttler, who was the initial aggressor with a rapid 83 off 30 deliveries. Salt reflected on his performance, saying, "It was really good fun, a personal milestone, but also the fact we got to 300 and won by such a big margin, you cannot ask for much more."

South Africa's bowlers endured a difficult day, conceding their highest-ever total in a T20I. The team's struggles were compounded by a chase that never gained momentum. South Africa was bowled out for 158 in 16.1 overs, leading to their biggest loss in the format. Captain Aiden Markram acknowledged the team's struggles. "It was a tough one," Markram said. "We started getting it wrong from the toss; that one is on me. Two masterclasses up front from them, and when you are put under that kind of pressure, it is hard to pull it back."

In contrast to South Africa's performance, England's bowlers were disciplined and smart with their lines. The change of pace and accuracy meant South Africa's batsmen, who needed to score at a high run rate, were unable to build any significant partnerships. Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 11 in two overs, while Will Jacks also impressed with 2 for 1. The team's fielding was also on point, with Jofra Archer taking three catches in a strong all-around effort.

With the series tied at one win apiece, all eyes now turn to the final T20I on Sunday. England's victory, a mix of sublime batting and effective bowling, gives them momentum heading into the decider. South Africa will need to regroup and come up with new plans to challenge a confident England side and avoid a series defeat.
