India secured multiple medals, including a gold and two silvers, across the compound categories at the World Archery Para Championships 2025 in Gwangju, Korea.
Sheetal Devi won an individual gold in the Women’s Compound Open final. The young archer maintained composure to defeat the highly decorated Oznur Cure Girdi of Turkiye, a three-time World Champion and the 2024 Paris Paralympics gold medallist, with a final score of 146-143. Sheetal established an early lead by shooting a perfect 30 in the second end and maintained her focus until the final arrow, securing her maiden individual World Championship gold.
The men's team also contributed to the gold medal tally with Toman Kumar being crowned champion in the Compound Men’s Open final. The gold was secured after his compatriot Rakesh suffered an equipment malfunction, forcing him to withdraw from the final and settle for a silver medal.
Sheetal Devi added to her gold with two more medals in the team events. She partnered with Sarita to secure a silver medal in the Compound Women’s Open Team event, losing the final to Turkiye 152-148. Additionally, Sheetal and Toman Kumar teamed up for the Compound Mixed Team Open event, where they defeated the Great Britain duo of Nathan MacQueen and Jodie Grinham to claim the bronze medal.
While Shyam Sunder Swami narrowly missed out on a medal in the Compound Men's Open bronze final, the overall performance underscored a highly successful World Championships for the Indian contingent.
