Vaishnavi Adkar, Duhan and Gogoi score upset wins

PUNE: Indian players savoured a fruitful day with three of them--Vaishnavi Adkar, Udit Gogoi and Chirag Duhan--scoring upset wins in the first round matches of Gadre MSLTA-ITF Grade 3 Junior Tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana here on Monday.

Maharashtra girl and wildcard entrant Vaishnavi scored an impressive 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) win to send packing the fifth seeded Yu-Yun Li of Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, girl’s top seed Maria Sholokhova of Russia scored a routine 6-0, 6-2 win over Bhakti Parwani and the No 7 seed Zijun Jiang of China defeated Prerna Vichare 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.

In the boys section, Udit Gogoi from Haryana ousted sixth seeded Dragos Petre Popeanga of Romania 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 and Chirag Duhan upset No 4 seed Uddayvir Singh 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 to make it to the second round, while the top seed Patrorn Hanchaikul won easily.
