Anthropic has introduced rupee-denominated pricing for its Claude AI assistant, a move designed to simplify payments for one of the platform's largest user bases globally. The change lets Indian users subscribe to Claude Pro and Claude Max directly in rupees rather than converting from dollars, and it comes as both Anthropic and rival OpenAI sharpen their focus on the Indian market.
What The New Pricing Looks Like
Anthropic has introduced rupee-denominated pricing for Claude AI subscriptions in India, allowing users to pay directly in INR through its website and mobile apps. The company currently supports card payments and says the move is part of a broader effort to expand local currency pricing across global markets.
New pricing includes:
Claude Pro: ₹2,000 per month, with higher usage limits and access to Claude Code and Cowork.
Claude Max: Starts at ₹11,999 per month, offering higher usage limits and priority access during peak demand.
Anthropic is also testing rupee-based pricing for new consumer subscriptions across its Pro, Max, and Team.
Why India, and Why Now
India is one of Claude's largest user communities worldwide, and Anthropic has been steadily building out its presence in the country. In February this year, the company opened an office in Bengaluru, its second in Asia after Tokyo, and announced a series of India-focused partnerships, describing the country as Claude.ai's second-largest market and home to developers doing some of the most technically demanding AI work globally.
At the time, Anthropic said its run-rate revenue in India had doubled since it first flagged an India expansion in October 2025, with growth spanning large enterprises, digital-native companies, and early-stage startups alike.
The pricing update comes as competition in India's AI market intensifies. OpenAI recently appointed Prabhjeet Singh as its India Managing Director, underscoring the country's strategic importance, while Anthropic continues to expand its presence following the launch of its Bengaluru office.
The introduction of rupee-based pricing is expected to make Claude AI more accessible to Indian users while reflecting the growing competition among global AI companies to expand their footprint in one of the world's fastest-growing AI markets.
