Apple has never officially confirmed that it is developing a foldable iPhone. However, a combination of supply-chain leaks, a factory dummy unit video, and clues found in the iOS 27 beta has fuelled speculation that such a device may be in development.
According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, developers examining the iOS 27 beta discovered references to terms such as "foldState" and "angleDegrees", which appear to relate to a device that can fold or change position. Other code strings reportedly point to hardware with multiple displays and software that can respond to different opening angles.
Apple has also updated its iPhone Mirroring feature on Mac to support screen layouts larger than those found on current iPhones, a change some observers believe could be linked to a future foldable device with a larger inner display.
In addition, Apple has encouraged developers to make apps adapt more smoothly to different screen sizes and orientations. While presented as a general software improvement, the guidance could also support a foldable iPhone if one is eventually introduced.
On May 31, a leaker posted a hands-on video on X showing a physical dummy unit of the foldable iPhone. The clip showed the device from multiple angles, confirming a book-style form factor that folds left to right, a profile of approximately 4.5mm when unfolded, which would make it one of the thinnest foldables ever built, volume buttons along the top edge, a dual rear camera module, and a power button on the right side. Third-party case renders from accessory manufacturers independently matched the same layout.

The rumoured iPhone Fold is expected to carry a premium price tag, with analysts estimating a launch price between $2,000 and $2,500, potentially around $2,400. Despite the high cost, market forecasts suggest strong demand, with Apple projected to capture a significant share of the foldable smartphone market in its first year. Reports also indicate the device could be positioned as an "Ultra" product within Apple's lineup.
The official name remains unconfirmed, with leakers divided between iPhone Ultra and iPhone Fold. Apple has made no public comment.
