The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM to establish three Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centres of Excellence in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. This strategic partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies across governance, law enforcement, forensic science, and geographic data analysis in the state.
Each centre will focus on a specialized domain: Mumbai will host a Geospatial Analytics Centre leveraging satellite imagery and GIS technology to enhance urban planning and disaster management.
Pune will establish a Forensic Research and AI Centre to support criminal investigations and forensic analysis using advanced AI tools.
Nagpur will house the MARVEL Centre (Monitoring, Accountability, Regulation, Vigilance, Enforcement, and Legality), focusing on AI-driven governance, law enforcement, and anti-corruption frameworks.
This initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s vision of ‘Digital India, Self-Reliant Maharashtra,’ aiming to improve transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centric service delivery through AI-powered solutions. IBM will provide cutting-edge AI technologies, training, and consulting expertise to support these centres.
The collaboration is expected to foster innovation, create new opportunities in the IT and AI sectors, and position Maharashtra as a leader in AI-driven governance and research.
