Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, has introduced a new hybrid work policy requiring its technology workforce to work from the office for at least 10 days each month, effective March 10, 2025. This move aims to enhance team collaboration while maintaining flexibility for employees. The policy applies to employees at Job Level 5 (JL5) and below, which includes team leaders, software engineers, senior engineers, system engineers, and consultants.
Infosys will implement a mobile app-based attendance system to track employee presence, and work-from-home (WFH) requests will no longer be automatically approved; instead, employees must mark their physical presence at designated office locations for at least 10 days a month.
The policy prioritises project needs over departmental requests, ensuring that employees can still work from home when necessary, but with limited approvals. This approach aims to balance collaboration with flexibility. Employees failing to meet the 10-day office requirement may face deductions from their leave balance.
For instance, if an employee falls short by one or two days, those days will be deducted from their leave. Infosys is not alone in enforcing stricter return-to-office policies; competitors like TCS have also implemented similar measures, with TCS linking variable pay to office attendance.
This shift towards mandatory office attendance reflects a broader industry trend towards balancing remote work flexibility with the need for in-person collaboration. As companies navigate post-pandemic work environments, policies like these will continue to shape the future of work.
