OpenAI has introduced new personal finance tools for ChatGPT that allow users to securely link their bank accounts and access AI-powered insights on spending, investments, subscriptions, and financial planning. The feature enables users to view a unified dashboard of their financial activity and ask natural-language questions about expenses, savings, and future goals.

Currently available in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the US, the rollout marks OpenAI’s expansion into consumer finance services. The system uses Plaid to connect with over 12,000 financial institutions, enabling secure access to account data, while leveraging the GPT-5.5 model for improved contextual financial analysis and reasoning.

How To Use The New Finances Tools

Users can access the new Finances feature in OpenAI’s ChatGPT either by opening the “Finances” tab from the sidebar or by typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” in the chat window. The platform then uses Plaid, a secure financial connectivity service, to link user accounts, with support for Intuit integration expected in the future.

Once authenticated, ChatGPT automatically syncs account activity and categorises transactions, a process that may take a few minutes depending on the number of connected accounts. After setup, the AI can assist with budgeting, financial goal planning, subscription tracking, travel expense analysis, investment risk discussions, and long-term savings strategies.

Key Features

  • Securely connects bank accounts via Plaid

  • Automatically syncs and categorises transactions

  • Provides spending insights and cash flow analysis

  • Suggests budgeting limits and savings plans

  • Helps with financial goal and investment planning

  • Supports subscription and expense tracking

  • Offers personalised “financial memories” for context-aware conversations

  • Can analyse recurring expenses and recommend savings transfers

OpenaAI Finance Feature: Availability

For now, the finance feature in OpenAI’s ChatGPT is available only to US ChatGPT Pro users on web and iOS, supporting over 12,000 financial institutions via Plaid. OpenAI says the system can view financial data like balances and transactions but cannot access full account numbers or move money, and users can disconnect accounts anytime with data deleted within 30 days.

Users can now view all their finances in a single dashboard inside OpenAI’s ChatGPT, reducing the need to switch between banking apps and budgeting tools. Once linked, it shows spending patterns, investments, savings, recurring payments, and upcoming bills, while offering personalised answers to financial questions like expense changes, affordability, and savings progress.
