The last date to link Aadhaar with PAN is nearing, and there are now less than 10 days left to do your Aadhaar-PAN linking. Those who have not linked PAN with Aadhaar yet are set to face multiple difficulties. The last date for PAN-Aadhaar linking is 31 December 2025. From 1 January 2026, those who have not done Aadhaar-PAN linking will have their unlinked PAN rendered inoperative.
As per the latest announcement from the Income Tax Department on April 3, 2025, individuals who received their PAN using an Aadhaar number before October 1, 2024, must finish the PAN-Aadhaar linking by the end of this year. For others, the deadline for linking was May 31, 2024. Not completing this process will result in the PAN becoming inactive, which can have significant repercussions.
If you don’t link your PAN with Aadhaar by 31st December, your PAN will become inoperative. This could lead to several consequences, including penalties. Even if you link your PAN with Aadhaar now, you will still be required to pay a ₹1,000 penalty for missing the original deadline.
If your PAN becomes inoperative:
Filing your Income Tax Return (ITR) could become problematic, as the Income Tax Department may reject your submission.
You'll face higher TDS/TCS rates, and credits won’t show up in Form 26AS. TDS/TCS certificates will also be unavailable.
You may be unable to open a bank account, get a credit/debit card, deposit over ₹50,000 at the bank, or conduct transactions exceeding ₹10,000.
KYC processes will be restricted, leading to additional disruptions.
Services from mutual funds and stockbrokers could also be suspended.
