Drawing on anonymized, aggregated information from its global user base of 500 million people, Truecaller reported that in 2025 the platform detected more than 68 billion spam and fraudulent calls worldwide.

The report also highlights that Indonesia tops the global ranking of spam-impacted nations, followed by Chile, Vietnam, and Brazil, underscoring the widespread nature of the issue across multiple regions.

In India, where spam intensity has reached 66 per cent, unwanted calls are largely driven by commercial interests, with sales and telemarketing emerging as the dominant sources of disruption for users. The data indicates that a significant portion of these calls are not random but systematically aimed at promoting products and services, reflecting a strong commercial bias in spam activity across the country.

Breakdown of spam calls in India:

  • Sales and telemarketing calls: 36% — the largest share, driven by promotional campaigns and aggressive marketing efforts.

  • Financial services calls: 18% — including loan offers, credit card promotions, and investment-related pitches.

  • Scam-related calls: 12% — involving fraudulent attempts aimed at deceiving users and extracting sensitive information.
