On May 15, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced that the mAadhaar app will soon be retired. Users are encouraged to switch to the new Aadhaar app, which offers a smarter, faster and more secure digital experience with features like QR-based Aadhaar sharing, enhanced privacy controls and seamless access to Aadhaar services.

The latest Aadhaar application can be downloaded for both Android and iPhone devices through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The UIDAI is set to discontinue the mAadhaar app soon, so if you are still using the older version, now is the ideal time to change. UIDAI has advised all users to shift to the new Aadhaar app, which offers enhanced security features and improved privacy protections.

New Aadhaar App Brings Enhanced Security Features

The new Aadhaar app introduces a range of upgraded security and privacy-focused features designed to make digital identity management safer and more convenient for users. It replaces the older mAadhaar experience with stronger controls, flexible data sharing options, and improved accessibility across multiple Indian languages.

Key Features

  • QR-based Aadhaar sharing for quick verification

  • Face authentication and offline identity checks

  • Biometric locking for fingerprint, iris, and face data

  • Selective Share feature to control what personal details are shared

  • Support for 13 Indian languages for wider accessibility

  • Ability to create and manage up to five family profiles

The new Aadhaar app allows users to share only selected personal details such as name, photo, age, or address, with QR-based verification for faster processing. However, losing a registered mobile device may temporarily restrict access, and existing mAadhaar data will not transfer automatically, requiring users to re-register on the new app.
