Mirzapur: The Movie, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, hit theatres across India and 37 countries on September 4, marking the cult OTT franchise's first-ever big-screen release after three seasons on Prime Video. The film closed its day 1 advance bookings at the Indian box office on a surprising note, grossing over 9 crore, surpassing the pre-sales of Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2, despite that film carrying the advantage of being a sequel.
Distributor AA Films secured a wide release for the crime thriller, and the film debuted with 11,530 shows nationwide, an impressive count given it has no major star faces leading it. The final tally shows the film sold 3.28 lakh tickets, including 2.5 thousand tickets for the Telugu-dubbed version, with the Telugu run alone contributing over 3.84 lakh to the total gross.
Trade watchers note that Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra emerged as strong markets, contributing roughly 1.85 crore and 1.84 crore respectively to the advance numbers. The film also benefited from a clear release window, as Yash's Toxic failed to hold, leaving Mirzapur without any strong competitor at the box office this week
Ahead of the release, lead actor Pankaj Tripathi spoke about the shift from streaming to cinema, noting that art experienced communally changes entirely, with a shared audience creating a different kind of impact than watching alone. The film also cleared censor formalities smoothly, with the CBFC certification reportedly requiring only minimal cuts, letting the makers retain much of the franchise's raw, unfiltered tone.
One viewer praised the film's larger-than-life scale, writing that Divyenndu's comeback as Munna Bhaiya made the theatre erupt without any need for hype-building, calling it pure "bhaukaal." Another reviewer, who awarded the film 4.5 out of 5, singled out Divyenndu's madness, attitude, and comic timing as reasons he stands out every time he's on screen, alongside praise for Ali Fazal's intensity as Guddu Pandit and Ravi Kishan's turn as the unpredictable Babban Yadav.
With trade sources noting that the ticket numbers show real urgency among movie buffs for a title adapted from a web series, all that remains for Mirzapur is delivering strong content to convert that opening buzz into a full theatrical run.
