Pune: A young man, enraged over a previous fine, physically assaulted a traffic police officer at Markal Chowk, Alandi, on Friday (January 3) afternoon, causing significant disruption in the area. The incident was reported by Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (APSI) Ankush Wadekar, who is attached to the Alandi Traffic Branch. Based on his complaint, the accused, Vijay Namdev Jare (33), a resident of Gopalpura, Alandi, was arrested by the police.

According to the police report, APSI Wadekar was on duty managing traffic at the busy Markal Chowk when Jare approached him in a fit of rage. Jare allegedly harbored a grudge against Wadekar for issuing a fine receipt against his vehicle on a prior occasion.

Eyewitnesses reported that Jare confronted Wadekar and threatened him, saying, "Don’t you know I’m a local here? Why did you fine my vehicle? Do you want to live here or not?" Following the verbal threats, Jare grabbed Wadekar by the collar, tearing the buttons on his uniform.

The altercation escalated when Jare slapped Wadekar on the face. As Wadekar tried to defend himself, Jare began punching and kicking him on the head and chest. The incident caused chaos and led to a significant traffic jam in the area.

The Alandi Police acted swiftly, arresting Jare on charges of obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, among other offenses. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed against the accused.
