Pune: The Bhama Askhed Dam in Khed Taluka currently holds 5.49 TMC of water, which is 65.46% of its total capacity. This marks a decline compared to the same date last year, when the storage level was 68.53%, raising concerns over water availability as summer approaches.

Constructed on the Bhama River, the Bhama Askhed Dam is a major water source for the region, with a total storage capacity of 8.14 TMC. The dam's catchment area has received 1,299 mm of rainfall since June 1, 2024.

So far, two water releases have been conducted during the Rabi crop season, benefiting 18 barrages up to Alegaon Paga. The next water release is planned for early March to meet summer irrigation and domestic water requirements.

With rising temperatures and increasing water demand, local authorities have urged residents and farmers to use water conservatively. Assistant Engineer (Grade 1) Ashwin Pawar, Section Engineer Nilesh Ghare-Deshmukh, and Canal Inspector Vasant Dhokre have emphasized the importance of water conservation to ensure sustainable supply throughout the summer months.
