BJP Revamps Leadership Structure, Increases Mandal Presidents per Constituency

The restructuring follows a central directive to enhance the party’s grassroots engagement and improve booth-level coordination.

Pune: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a major organizational restructuring across Maharashtra, introducing a decentralized leadership model. Under the new framework, instead of appointing a single Mandal President per Assembly constituency, the party will designate one Mandal President for every 100 booths. This shift is expected to significantly increase the number of Mandal Presidents, with each constituency now having three to five leaders in this role. The selection process is scheduled to take place in April.

The restructuring follows a central directive to enhance the party’s grassroots engagement and improve booth-level coordination. Previously, each Assembly constituency had a single Mandal President, requiring Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and corporators to coordinate with one key official. However, with the increasing voter population—ranging between 2.5 lakh and 5.5 lakh per constituency—the BJP has decided to expand leadership roles for better governance and strategic outreach.

Impact of the Structural Overhaul
With multiple Mandal Presidents in each constituency, their jurisdiction and responsibilities will be redefined. This change is expected to facilitate better execution of party initiatives, voter engagement, and grassroots-level mobilization. However, the shift may also lead to internal power dynamics as multiple leaders will now share the authority previously held by a single individual.

Strengthening Micro-Level Planning
The revised structure is designed to strengthen micro-level political planning by ensuring direct representation at the booth level. The Mandal Presidents, elected by Booth Presidents, will be responsible for implementing party programs, promoting government schemes, and maintaining voter outreach. Former corporators and district council members will also play a role in this framework. With detailed booth-wise data collection, BJP aims to improve its electoral strategy and policy execution.

Expansion of Mandal Presidents in Pune
In Pune city, which comprises eight Assembly constituencies, the existing eight Mandal Presidents will be replaced by 27 newly appointed Mandal Presidents. Each Mandal President will oversee a team of 60 to 70 party workers, including general secretaries, vice presidents, and secretaries. This expansion will provide increased opportunities for party workers to contribute to the organization, according to Dheeraj Ghate, Pune BJP President.

Rajesh Pandey, General Secretary, Maharashtra BJP said, “The BJP is undergoing a structural revamp across Maharashtra. While earlier, each Assembly constituency had a single Mandal President, the new model appoints one Mandal President per 100 booths. This will expand leadership roles within the party and enhance booth-level management.”
