Pune: The Indian Postal Department has launched the Deen Dayal SPARSH (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby) Scheme, aimed at encouraging philately among students from Classes VI to IX. This initiative offers a scholarship of ₹6,000 per year, paid quarterly at ₹500 per month.

The scheme seeks to reward students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate a passion for philately. Participants are required to collect, preserve, and research postage stamps as part of their hobby. The scholarship also recognizes students who present creative projects showcasing their stamp collections.

Eligibility and Selection Process

Each year, 920 students from across India are selected for the scholarship. Every postal circle selects 10 students each from Classes VI to IX. To qualify, students must achieve a minimum of 60% marks in their school examinations (55% for SC/ST students).

If a school does not have a philately club, the student’s personal philately deposit account will be considered for eligibility. Previously selected students are allowed to reapply for subsequent years.

Application Guidelines

Interested students must submit their application forms along with the following documents:

  • Academic certificates

  • Proof of age

  • Ration card or Aadhaar card

  • Membership details of their philately deposit account

The application, accompanied by a stamp collection project, must be submitted to the Senior Superintendent of the Post Office.

Benefits of the Scheme

The scholarship aims to revive interest in philately as a hobby among young learners. By encouraging the collection and study of postage stamps, the scheme seeks to foster creativity, research skills, and historical awareness among students.
