Pune: Following a spike in Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Dhayari, Kirkatwadi, Nanded, and Nandoshi areas, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped in to address the situation by supplying potable water tankers to affected societies.

The rise in GBS cases has been attributed to the consumption of contaminated water, with untreated water being supplied to homes in these regions. Residents have reported symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and body aches, linked to poor water quality.

The situation turned critical after the death of a young chartered accountant from Dhayari due to GBS, which occurred two days ago. This incident has heightened awareness and spurred PMC into action.

As part of its emergency response, the PMC has begun delivering drinking water tankers to 11 residential societies, including DSK Vishwa, Utsav, Morya Sparsh, Pandurang Residency, Kalpak Home Phase 2, Urban Park, Kalam Green Leaf, Anandban, Ingawale Patil Complex, Ujwal Nisarg Society, and Sai Galaxy.

PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. confirmed the tanker supply arrangements but did not specify the number of tankers to be provided. PMC officials are working to ensure residents receive clean drinking water to prevent further health complications.
