Pune: A 30-year-old man from Hadapsar died by suicide after allegedly being rejected by a woman he had been in a relationship with for four years. The Wanawadi police have registered a case against the woman for abetment of suicide and financial fraud.
The deceased, Ganesh Raju Singh, was a resident of Gosavi Vasti, Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar. His sister, Gauri Rajendra Kamble (33), lodged a complaint at Wanawadi Police Station, leading to legal action against the woman.
Ganesh and the woman had been in a relationship for four years and had informed their families of their intention to marry. However, according to the complaint filed by his sister, the woman allegedly took money from him regularly—for clothing, groceries, and personal expenses.
She also worked at a gym, and Ganesh would drop her off daily. Additionally, she bought a two-wheeler, for which Ganesh was paying the loan installments. Despite this, she allegedly began avoiding him and eventually cut off all communication. Ganesh’s friends attempted to intervene, but she did not respond to their concerns.
On February 7, Ganesh was visibly distressed and crying at home, telling his family that he had fallen into debt because of her. Later, he left home and did not return. His family filed a missing person report at Wanwadi Police Station.
Hours later, police found his body on the railway tracks in Hadapsar, confirming that he had died by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.
After the family identified his body, his sister filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against the woman under abetment of suicide and financial fraud charges. Police Sub-Inspector Avinash Shinde is leading the ongoing investigation.
