  • Temporary Ban for Safety: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have barred two-wheelers from the Hinjawadi–Wakad flyover at Bhujbal Chowk during peak hours for at least two weeks.

  • Peak-Time Restriction: Two-wheelers are not allowed on the flyover from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm to prevent bottlenecks.

  • Alternative Routes: Riders can take short detours via Surya underpass (for Wakad to Hinjawadi) and Sayaji underpass (for Hinjawadi to Wakad).

Pune, 12 September 2025: The Traffic Branch of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has temporarily banned two-wheelers on the Hinjawadi–Wakad flyover at Bhujbal Chowk during peak hours.

The move, which started on Thursday morning, will continue as a trial for at least the next fortnight to ease congestion on this busy stretch connecting Pune with Hinjawadi’s IT hub.

According to Hinjawadi Traffic Police, the flyover is narrow and lacks a central divider, which often creates bottlenecks when mixed traffic uses the route. To improve safety and reduce jams, only four-wheelers are being allowed on the bridge during rush hours. The restriction applies from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Police Inspector Rahul Sonawane of the Hinjawadi Traffic Division said the decision was announced through public announcements on Thursday morning. He explained that limiting the flyover to cars during peak time is expected to prevent traffic snarls and make movement smoother for all commuters.

No official notification has been issued yet, which left many riders surprised on the first day of the trial. However, two-wheeler riders have been provided easy detours. Those heading from Wakad to Hinjawadi can skip the flyover by turning left and taking a U-turn from the Surya underpass, a diversion of about 50–100 metres. Similarly, riders travelling from Hinjawadi to Wakad can turn left and take a U-turn at the Sayaji underpass.

The traffic police have invited suggestions and feedback from residents. Citizens can share their objections or ideas with the Hinjawadi Traffic Division at Bhujbal Chowk or the PCMC Traffic Branch Head Office near Elpro Mall in Chinchwad Gaon.
