IIM Mumbai to open a new campus in Pune.
Training programs to start in 2026.
Move to boost education, industry, and research in Maharashtra.
Pune, 22 September 2025: Pune’s reputation as a leading centre of education is set to receive a major boost with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai establishing a new campus in the city.
The proposal, put forward by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, has received approval from the IIM Dean Committee and Academic Council. The Pune centre is expected to launch its first training programs in 2026.
The decision marks a significant step for Maharashtra’s academic and industrial landscape. Known for its rapidly growing technology sector, strong startup culture, and presence of multinational companies, Pune offers an ideal environment for a world-class management institute.
The new campus will provide students access to global-standard management education at their doorstep, encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation, and advanced research.
IIM Mumbai Director Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari said the Pune centre aims to start capacity-building and short-term executive training programs from the 2026 academic year. He expressed gratitude to Minister Mohol for supporting the initiative and added that the institute hopes to contribute meaningfully to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Calling the development a proud moment for Maharashtra, Minister Mohol said the collaboration between Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, and Pune, a hub for technology and education, will create a powerful “knowledge corridor.” This partnership, he added, will open up vast opportunities for students and strengthen India’s position in the global management education landscape.
The Pune campus is expected to not only raise the city’s academic profile but also reinforce Maharashtra’s status as a hub for industry-driven education and research. With world-class programs and executive training opportunities, it will pave the way for innovation, entrepreneurship, and a stronger connection between academia and industry.
